Series Description
Alex Shrine comes into contact with beings from another dimension and discovers that he has a gene inherited from a distant ancestor. Only a handful of beings in the entire cosmos have a similar gene which enables them to have contact with mysterious forces. A thinking universe is manipulating events to protect itself from destruction and enlists those with the gene, including Alex, who is developing incredible abilities, to engage in battle with a race of malevolent sorcerers, called Sorcrons. Alex joins his new found friends and embarks on a series of dangerous adventures that take him across time and space and into parallel dimensions and bizarre alternate realities.
BOOK 1 DESCRIPTION
A stranger, calling himself Hogarth, claims to come from another dimension and persuades a teenager, Alex, to accompany him to a parallel world. A bizarre dust like powder transports them to the stranger's home and Alex embarks on a mind blowing adventure.
After a mind boggling journey Alex meets and makes friends with Hogarth's people who live without the use of modern gadgetry, relying on some amazing and, seemingly, magical powders.
The powders give the Realm People, as Alex calls his new found friends, an incredible ability to travel through time and alternate realities..
The source of the powders is a pyramid of mysterious crystals. The scientist who created the crystals, Shanglo, knows they have immense power and has the opportunity to hide them at the edge of a distant galaxy under the guardianship of a race known as the Sentinels.
Hundreds of years later the Realm People are at war with ones called the Sand Dwellers who have been forced to assist a renegade to find the mysterious crystals.
Alex joins in the battle against the Sand Dwellers and their renegade master.
His adventure takes him high in the air, deep underground and eventually on a hair raising journey to an outpost at the very edge of the cosmos; the home of The Sentinels.
Eventually Alex discovers he is developing unusual abilities including telepathy and Telekinesis.
Excerpt from book 1.
….Alex looked into the now open pouches and saw that each one contained a different coloured powder.
‘Each one of these powders has its own purpose,’ explained Hogarth, scrambling off the wall. He dipped his hand into the first pouch and brought out a small amount of yellow powder. ‘This one will make me invisible,’ he announced.
He tossed the contents of his hand into the air and stepped back a pace.
Alex watched open mouthed as a shimmering yellow circle of luminous dust appeared above Hogarth’s head. A million pinpoints of light sparkled and danced as the circle slowly descended…....Hogarth ducked and stood up quickly inside its perimeter. Almost immediately the ring transformed itself into a brilliant cylinder of yellow light and then was gone in an instant, without making a sound.
Alex stared in disbelief at the empty space where a moment ago Hogarth had been standing.

Although this book is for older children I still found it engaging as an adult.The way in which Rudi James describes the adventures of Alex (the main character) are both exciting and refreshing making a page turning book.
I originally read this book as I often coach people in English communication and I am always looking for books that are good for English learners. I would highly recommend this book for any English learner.
Whether you are an older child looking for adventure, an adult looking for an engrossing and original read or an English learner looking for a book to help you with your descriptive English I highly recommend this book.

I love to discover books such as "Alex and the Realm People" for older children, especially boys, and for adults looking for an interesting read. This book interweaves imagination and fact to create an in-depth, mind-stirring, sci-fi adventure in a clearly and cleanly written feel-good story of time travel to exciting realms with a happy, wholesome ending. I was delighted to find out there will be more of Alex traveling to other time-space places, adding his particular "expertise" to help other beings. I know because an enticing sample chapter from the upcoming sequel "Alex and the Seventh Realm" is included in the book.
Although this book is for older children I still found it engaging as an adult.
